BENEFITS OF TAKING THE PSAT:  The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) is your first step toward reaching your college goals. It measures the reading, mathematics, and writing skills you need for college. After the test, you’ll receive feedback on how ready you are for college and tools to help you improve your test scores. This is a great way to preview and practice for the SAT, except for the fact that PSAT doesn’t have an essay. The two tests have very similar content, format, and even scoring.

The PSAT takes 2 hours and 45 minutes, with an additional 30-50 minutes for administrative tasks. There are sections in reading, writing and language, math with calculator, and math without calculator.
